Yeah…done with your 10th board exams? I understand how relaxed you all might be feeling now. A blend of feelings has occupied your mind and your brain makes you nervous by thinking that here’s the end of your school life. But at the next moment, your heart reminds you that now you will enter the college life and then you just can’t wait for that. Your really long summer vacation is also completely occupied with the huge to-do list of a number of plans that you have jotted down even before your exams. Some may have planned for a tour to a new place or to a relative, the sport geeks may have planned for their whole day practice on grounds, the more studious ones may have planned to pursue a particular crash course, and others may have planned to maintain their hobby. This way, your whole day schedule has been, or may be yet to be for some, prepared and you are all set to jump for them.
While there is no other opinion that yes, the 10th pass out students require recreation, it should not be like that the whole summer vacation is been passed without a single thought about your future career. Yes, your decision to pursue a particular course after 10th will shape your career and your future life. Just like a particular course will play an important role, a particular college too is crucial in shaping your future. For those, who have decided to go for junior college and opt 11th, have to decide among the three streams, arts, science and commerce. There are a lot of junior colleges in Pune. However, S. B. Patil College of Science and Commerce is among the top junior colleges in Pune.
Often there has been a major misconception in the minds of parents and students about commerce and science.
|Science||Is for people with high level of intelligence
High prestigious field
Lot of future career options
Very competitive field
|Commerce||Need not to take the risk of science
Does not require year around studying
Safe option, family trend
Less competition in market.
Well, though the above mentioned points used to hold true once, now, in the 21st century, they seem to be invalid. In this increasingly competitive world, there is not any stream where one will not find competition. Also, a deep knowledge is what demanded everywhere and so year around study is a must for both streams. In addition, both the streams have a vast future career options to choose and rely upon. So, if you find that you are interested in commerce but science too attracts you, then this blog will help you to choose one from the two streams. Students of 10th standard, though not much, but are well acquainted with science subjects. So, the perplexity lies for commerce since it seems to be a complete new world as they haven’t been taught this subject earlier till 10th.
So, what exactly is commerce? Simply stated, commerce is our day to day life that we live. In commerce, you will get to learn about how the market works. Commerce tells how to produce a particular product of a service with least cost and how to sell that product or service with maximum price. To run such a business, one must be proficient in figures for calculation the profits and losses. This is learnt in the Book Keeping and Accountancy subject. Running a business requires the help of a person who has knowledge, skills, procedure and methods of work to perform. Such a person is called a Secretary and the roles and responsibilities of a secretary are studied in Secretarial Practice subject. Well, when decides to enter into a business, one should know what to produce, how to produce, when to produce. After producing a product or a service, the most important question that one encounters is where to sell, when to sell and how to sell. These along with the cost and pricing related decisions of business are studied in Economics subject. Doing the huge list of everyday tasks in business requires proper management. Also, the supplementary tasks that are associated with any business include the transportation, warehouse, etc. Businesses have also their social responsibilities that need to be understood clearly. This all is studied under Organization of Commerce and Management subject. Thus, in short, commerce is all about trading, buying and selling the products or services.
On the other hand, Science deals with experimentation on nature and behavior of materials around us. It is based on observation, measurement and formulation of laws along with experiments. Everything, whether living or non-living, around you is studied in science. If one has frequent questions like how and why in mind after observing the trees, animals, stars, sky, roads, buildings, vehicles, computers, etc. Science is definitely for the curious ones. However, the science that is learnt in 11th and thereafter is not the similar one that is been learnt till 10th.
Here, the students are encountered with subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. Everything that we see around us is the matter and is full of energy. The study of nature and properties matter and energy is included in Physics. Chemistry subject deals with the composition of matter, chemicals and their properties and reactions. The study of plants and animals is studied under the subject Biology. Mathematics is about the numbers which one may find really exhausting.
Having known the difference between the two streams, students should also know that the one who pursued science in 11th can shift to commerce in 12th but the reverse is not applicable. However, no matter where you work in, a sound knowledge of commerce is always an advantage to reach heights. But, if you wish for creating something that is never before on this planet, science should be your choice.
When you have cleared all your doubts about commerce and science streams, what next matters is the college that you seek admission in. Pune has a rich heritage of educational institutions. The S. B. Patil College of Science and Commerce has consistently been recognized as the best junior college in Pune. The highly educated and experienced staff makes your understanding of each and every subject in depth and develops your liking for studying overall.
